The spare parts container (seen on the right) fills itself automatically – is it magic? Not quite – a driver has access to the upbox and always places subsequent deliveries in the designated spot.

BESKO has made an excellent name for itself through its dedication to customer service in Denmark and Northern Germany. This is why BPW will soon be assuming responsibility for the company’s entire spare parts business in Germany.

NOTHING IS MORE EXPENSIVE THAN A TRUCK OR TRAILER PARKED IDLY AT THE WORKSHOP

This is why uptime is so critical to forwarders, hire companies and leasing companies. Which explains the success of the BPW Aftermarket Group. As a business unit of the BPW Group, it rapidly supplies spare parts for commercial vehicles throughout all of Europe – across brands and manufacturers and from genuine parts from the manufacturer to an alternative that reflects the vehicle’s current value. Pursuing this goal has led to the creation of one of the largest international organisations for spare parts dealers, supplying workshops and vehicle operators with a full range of spare parts for trucks and trailers.

From Trailcon in Finland to Yolpar in Turkey, the dealers have local expertise and are managed by local experts. At the same time, they benefit from the power of networks – beginning with a joint purchasing organisation in Wuppertal that ensures all of the companies enjoy optimised terms and conditions, and continuing through an in-depth exchange of experience and ideas. “Our goal is to pool our knowledge and implement the best ideas across Europe,” explains Ingmar Fröhlich, responsible for business development at the BPW Aftermarket Group.

“We exchange information and ideas extensively, both personally during meetings and at conferences as well as online within international project teams that operate online.”

This form of swarm intelligence is now also reflected in digital innovations as well. The most spectacular example is the upBox, a fully digitised and automated spare parts warehouse in a 40-foot shipping container that is placed directly on the property of the workshop or fleet operator. It provides an around-theclock assortment of spare parts tailored to the respective customer, which they then can simply remove from the shelves – upBox uses RFID technology to track each part that gets taken. The billing and restocking processes are fully automatic. The high-tech warehouse originally developed by Trailcon in Finland is now available to the entire BPW Aftermarket Group and has already been installed at over 30 service stations. In the process, the concept was further refined and in future, will also be able to be installed inside the workshop without the shipping container.

“The BPW Aftermarket Group uses the best ideas, methods and processes from the regional companies and makes them available across Europe.”

“MOVIN’ ON UP” – THE NAME SAYS IT ALL

In line with its uptime philosophy, all of the names of the BPW Aftermarket Group’s digital innovations start with up: upBox, upPlace and upLink. upPlace is the online shop solution that was developed by BPW subsidiary PE Data and uses a special search algorithm to reliably find the right item from among thousands of spare parts, for example via the truck’s vehicle identification number or axle number, but also by entering random, intuitive keywords. Things get even easier with the mobile version upLink – simply use your smartphone to scan a QR code affixed to the truck or trailer and the vehicle immediately reveals its spare parts list. It also shows whether the required parts are available in the upBox on your own workshop premises – if not, you can order them in seconds.

“upLink is extremely popular; it isn’t only large fleet operators and professional workshop that have understood that they can considerably speed up the repair process with the app.”

Ingmar Fröhlich

The BPW Aftermarket Group aims to further strengthen its networks by implementing and harmonising the best ideas, methods and processes from the regions across Europe. In future, its IT systems will also increasingly converge by sharing systems, licences and infrastructures. Workshops and vehicle operators across Europe will benefit from the efficiency gains thanks to maximum uptime at all times.
